Caravan of Desires

Funny, tragic, naughty, surprising, irreverent and ever so slightly scandalous - Caravan of Desires is all these things and still suitable for all the family!

In a tin box on wheels - tidy, ordered, domestic - hides a world of comedy and tragedy, loathing and desire. Two holiday-makers arrive on the caravan site they have visited year-in, year-out. They bring with them the rituals and petty annoyances of their domestic life and the time they have spent together… but is this the year their secret desires will bubble over and transform their holiday and the essence of their life together? And is their caravan accomplice or provocateur in revealing what lies beneath the surface of their seemingly dreary life?

Caravan of Desires was originally inspired by the work of Angela Carter and, specifically, her book The Infernal Desire Machines of Doctor Hoffman. While the show is in no way "based" on the book, there are thematic references. We explore the small ways in which creativity, sensuality and dreams are often stifled at the hands of domesticity and order. We also reveal an astonishing world behind a facade of ordinariness when these forces are unleashed.

Caravan of Desires lifts the lid on the weird ritualised behaviour of caravan life. We liberate the reality of the clichéd caravan into a world of the subconscious, of dreams and of desires.

Caravan of Desires is also an installation work.
